Chicago Workshop Weekend – September 24 and 25
In a few weeks I’ll be back in Chicago for a lifting and programming workshop on September 24 and 25 respectively. For more information, location, and scheduling, click the link above. We’ll be having a jolly good time followed by local ale drinking, but we may find some Dornish red or Arbor gold. Prepare thyself.

NFL Season Starts Today
After the shittiest off-season in memory, the NFL is finally back starting this evening. The last two defending Super Bowl champions will play each other in this league-wide season opener of two incredibly evenly matched teams. 70’s Big will have a live chat during the game for football fans to actively discuss what should be an entertaining match up (or at least an entertaining chat).

Not looking forward to the world fellating Rodgers again

Chat Tonight
There will be a chat tonight. The first portion will start at 8:00 PM EST and be a streaming chat where we’ll look at lifting videos (be ready with your videos that you want form checked) until the game starts. Then we’ll move it over to our classic IRC chat and dick around.
USTREAM Link for 7:00 PM
Regular IRC Chat for after the streaming chat

Fantasy Football
With so many people wanting to play Fantasy Football and an inability to open several linked leagues without having to play in each one (compounded with the busy few weeks I had), the leagues are NOT set up. I’m trying to just create them and let you guys join freely (disregard the divisions). If you are wanting to play with randoms from the site, go ahead and see if you can sign up in the following link (I’m trying to figure out how to post it easily). If it works, I’ll make the other leagues and will put one of you in charge of the league.

FIT
My as well plug FIT again. Some folks have finished reading it and said it’s a great resource. I’ll be doing podcast interviews with Dr. Hartman and Kilgore soon, so be on the lookout for question submissions. The book is available on Amazon and B&N.

  1. I’m about halfway through FIT now. Lots of stuff I wasn’t expecting – for example, the training plans for distance running (10k in my case) will come in very handy.

  2. My copy arrived yesterday, wasn’t expected until the 13th! I’m looking forward to the chapter on endurance, hoping it’ll help me program for my sister and brother-in-law who are getting into marathons and whatnot. Oh, and also the whole thing really. heh

  3. Check the site pretty much everyday (but never post, other than for the beard contest I lost last year, not bitter at all) and was wondering if there would ever be a Chicago area workshop. Of course I will be out of town that week. Thanks for all the info and laughs Justin. Hope to make it next time

  4. I can attest that FIT is a must-hae book. It is very comprehensive and informative. Just from the 2 chapters I’ve read so far, FIT explains how programs like SS, Crossfit, 5/3/1, 3X10 hypertrophy programs, CFWF/70’s Big S&C etc relate to each other and to various fitness goals. It has loads of sample programs, including a 3 day/week S & C program that I’m going to give a go.

  5. Hi Justin, bought TM book, and am on week 3 of TM now. How should I feel on friday before Intensity day? I still feel stiff and sore in legs, not badly but some stiffness in the mornings and foam roller reveals some very sore spots in quads.

Is this normal or should I be feeling more refreshed and ready to go on friday before workour? Thanks!

It depends. What are your Volume Day and Intensity Day numbers? If they are close, then that’s why.

  6. They are close, because I only just switched over from SS. Final squat day on SS was 140kg (3 sets 5), went to 120kg for VD and 145 for first ID. 120 again for 2nd VD and going to attempt 147.5kg today for ID.

Depending on how I go today I’ll either keep VD as-is or possibly reduce the weight. Does this sound alright to you? Thanks for your help

  7. Your opinion please Justin

I’m 19 really into series weight training, I obviously have SS,PP, and your TM book. I plan on purchasing FIT and when I was looking on it on Amazon they have a deal for Kilgore’s Anatomy without a scalpel. Is it worth it for someone like me buy? Or would it just give me information that wouldn’t really help with my training?

I only ask because moneys tight between paying for college and the amount of food required to make all this training worth while

AWOS is a very good resource, and I can’t think of anything else that will help an anatomy student or just a layman learn human anatomy. By having AWOS and FIT, you will have an exceptional understanding of how the human body moves and functions. I highly recommend AWOS and wish I had it when going through school.

  8. if you feel like shit on fridays you need to back off the fucking volume not the intensity. Thats like saying “hey man DONT make progress for a few weeks.” Back off the volume minimum spread is like 60 lbs. And hit PR’s on friday. No one cares what you 5×5, EVER.

  9. Not to be off topic, but any date set for when the TM ebook part 2 comes out? Part 1 was fantastic and really put together the missing pieces for me that PPST from Rip kind of left out. It has greatly improved my results when using TM styled programming. Thanks Justin.

Thanks for the words. I’m in the pre-writing stage of the e-book but aim to get it out soon. I’d say at the earliest it’d be out in October, but I’ll use your enthusiasm as motivation.

  10. Just finished reading FIT, it really is a great resource. It’s up there with Starting Strenght and PP. I’ll be referring new trainees, etc to it definately.
