70’s Big Females – Pretty Strong

Every Monday 70’s Big features women who quite clearly show that lifting weights isn’t something that women should shy away from. Pretty Powerlifting is a powerlifting team started by Vanessa and Sara in New York. Their message is pretty much the same as what 70’s Big reverberates: women who strength train are healthy in body and mind.

The roommates fell in love with strength training and powerlifting and started the site and team to encourage women to train hard, get strong, and be healthy. Their mentors and role models in the sport are women such as Sioux-z Hartwig Gary, Jennifer Thompson, and Ellen Stein.

Here’s a video that features various Pretty Powerlifting team members.

These girls are pretty strong, but they will no doubt aim to continue getting stronger. Pretty Powerlifting fits with the 70’s Big mindset of not being an emaciated and weak female, but a strong, beautiful woman.

  1. First.

I like powerlifting, I like women. Powerlifting women make me want to stretch out my hip flexors for improved hip extension. Yeah, let’s go with that.

  2. Also, is that girl really named “Rabiah Morningstar”? Because if there is something I love more than cute female powerlifters, it’s cute female powerlifters named after medieval weapons.

  3. Jake – second post is way too funny!

Good post. I’m really appreciating the 70s Big females editions. They help me when I’m talking with people over here on the value of strength training for women. Good job to the Team!

Personal moment of triumph – I hit 280# for 3 sets of 5 today. 280 used to be my 1 rep max. They felt easier today than 275 did on Friday.

  4. Dear Vanessa, I would dive into a pool of rusty nails and New Delhi sewer water while a rabit hamster is clamped on to my nutsack for dear life just to be mauled by a pack of rottweilers after I crawl out of the pool just to sit in the same chair your mother did back in her 5th grade english class.

Dude really? I honestly think you couldn’t sound ANY fucking weirder.

  5. Grade A badassery.

70’s bigness PR: Decided that I’m going to be wearing a wolf shirt to my next meet to symbolize savagery and intimidate opponents.

Good. This is a formal call to pictures of wolf shirts and lifting. Preferably in meets.

  6. I think Brisket needs to get some ass. His Monday morning posts are getting creepier and creepier.

Deadlifting in ballet slippers = awesome

I also really want one of those “pretty strong” tshirts.

  7. Every Monday I realize that all is not lost. Speakin of shirts what if there were a shirt with a honey badger on it that said “stop giving a shit”?

Little do you all know that Brent’s code name has been Honey Badger for over a year.

  8. Fist of all, so far there have been three Monday girl posts for me to comment on, so I don’t see how you propose to describe a trend with just three data points, and secondly, peak creepiness was achieved on the first comment (at least in the opinion of Justin, which in the final consideration is the only opinion that really matters in these comments), and my comment on last week’s Monday post was not even slightly creepy, so…basically, your data are BS.

I’d like to think this is an oligarchy instead of a straight dictatorship. In any case, there have been at least 8 posts on 70’s Big females (with repeats from Ellee/Cori) on every Monday in the last 8 weeks. A literature review of Jake’s behavior is unnecessary, yet satisfying this craving is never a bad thing.

  9. i think this is my favorite 70s big lady post yet! these chicks are awesome. i also deadlift in my old dance shoes sometimes. the sole is perfect.

on another note, i’m super psycho right now. i’m running around cleaning our apartment top to bottom over and over and re-organizing things over and over and freaking out when things don’t fit right. i haven’t made it to the gym since…thursday? friday? i’m going fucking insane.

hopefully tonight i’ll be able to make it there before it closes. i may not make it through the cold dark night if i don’t squat soon. wish me luck.

  10. I love this feature, I love these women. I love that they’re totally badass AND own their femininity at the same time. They’re serving up third-wave powerlifting REALNESS. I need to get on this team STAT.

Also, PR-ing all up in this bitch today. ::brushes shoulder::

  11. AC (and others),

CoolStoryBro is referencing a kind of meme on the misc forums of bb.com, i’m not entirely sure of the origin or purpose but basically when a guy sees a hot girl online they send her a fucking bizarre message as mentioned above

    imo it’s pretty good

second, Jake’s comments on the Monday posts have been consistently excellent in quality (i.e. the one about going so deep that only Merlin could pull him out or something, that was fucking A+++++++ would LOL again caliber)

Honey badger, this is Overlord. Command asks whether or not Briskin One is weapons free for next Monday’s post, over.

  12. Also, thank you, CoolStoryBro, for completely letting me (and every other guy) off the hook for all future charges of creepitude. Seriously, if I ever commit a faux pas with a female in the future, all I have to say is “CoolStoryBro on May 23rd, 2011 at 9:50 AM”, and my remark will immediately seem totally innocuous in comparison.
