The Killustrator

PR Friday
Ladies, non-ladies who need to gain weight, and adult males…it is PR Friday. Surely you have achieved something great this past week. Surely you have something notable to tell us about. The good news is that we want to hear about it. Detail your triumphs, or your PR follies, in the comments of today’s post. It will be entertainment for all.

I’d like to share a brand new website with you, 70’s Big readers. Killustrated.com is a website where you can purchase graphic products (posters, shirts, illustrations, etc.) that range from cool lifting shirts, amazing pieces of lifting art, and fantastic anatomical drawings. Whether you are outfitting your home gym, looking for new lifting t-shirts, want some funky art, or are preparing to give lectures in the realm of exercise and/or training, Killustrated is stocked for your needs.

Killustrated is run by The Killustrator is “reclusive and eccentric fellow. A moderately accomplished athlete, coach, and art school dropout, he has spent more than two decades researching and teaching anatomy & physiology in a variety of formats.” He knows his stuff, and can portray it very well artistically; a deadly combination.

One piece that I want to highlight is the Pisarenko Poster. Anatoly Pisarenko is one of our 70’s Big co-captains, and the Killustrator has brought out the drama in this classic Bruce Klemens photo of Pisarenko.

This poster is “17×22 inch hand numbered giclee print on archival quality matte media”. I don’t know what the hell that means, but the texture of this “poster” is as thick as a note card, and it has some type of finish on the ink. In other words, it is built to last and is some high quality stuff. I know, because I have one — I have #5 out of 1,000. There will only be 1,000 printings, and after that, they will NOT be reprinted, so if you want one, you better get it now.

When the Killustrator showed me the poster, I couldn’t stop staring at it. It is absolutely beautiful. I’m framing mine and will use it for training motivation.

  1. BS: 345×5 after 6 hours of sleep in two days.

    PR for planning end-of-summer goals:

    BS: 385×5 (year-end is 405×5)
deads: 455×5 (year end is 495×5)
bench: 295×5 (year end is 315×5)
press: 205×5 (year end is 225×5)

  2. @antigen…thanks for forcing me to quit bitching and attempt a split clean.

    very excited about this.

    benched (average) 74x5x3

last time i benched, i barely pushed 67.5 lbs and bitched the whole time about how hard it was. this week i put 70 on the bar and it was too easy. so i put 75 on, and that was also too easy. so i slapped on 2 more pounds and called it good. i have never made this much progress on an upper body lift in one week.

at the same time, my squat hasn’t moved, despite increased caloric intake, increased sleep, and a drastic reduction in time spent doing cardio.

    any explanations?

also pr’d in overhead press: 65x4x6
    deadlift: 190×5
    snatch: 15 reps/15 min: 89 lbs

  3. Bench press comp today 325lbs PR.
+6lb pr from 3 weeks ago. Felt like a big fish in a small pond when SHW class is 225+ and i was the only one. BW- 237

  4. Ok, time to put it out there. I don’t want to be one of those guys that always hangs around the site but never posts any stats, so here goes.

    PRs
    Squat – 3×5@70kg (yeah, that’s what I said…)
    Press – 3×5@40kg
Starting Strength – ordered and en route
Barbell – received (no plates as yet, but in the meantime gonna practice technique on PCs, etc)

Started training a month or so ago – going well so far and really enjoying it, but only being able to train 1-2 times a week definitely slowing me down : (
Oh, BW approx 77-80kg up from 70ish at beginning.

  5. Squat 405x5x5 and 430x3x3
Bench 267.5×4 (misloaded my 5×5 weight by 10 pounds then miscorrected it without noticing by taking off 20)
    Press 162.5x5x5
    Power Clean 255×1
    Pullups +105×1 (51% BW)
    Chinups 45x8x3

And a miserable failure PR of only 3 reps at 380 in Halting DL 20 min after my 3×3 squat.

  6. M/ 20/ 6’/ 84kg

I’m up to 84kg from 70kg just before christmas. Eating what feels like loads, drinking my milk, and enjoying the strength gains. I started the weightlifting novice program from this site last week.
    Sq 120kg x 5 x 3
    Press 62.5kg x 5 x 3
    Deadlift 175kg x 5
    Bench press 92.5kg x 5 x 3
Power Clean and jerk 1 RM 95kg
    power Snatch 1 RM 67.5kg
Will improve on all these numbers next week.

  7. Competed in my first meet a couple weeks ago.
    Snatch – 100 kilos
    CJ – 127 kilos (missed 132 jerk)

    good enough for second.

    Nice job, Neal!
