T-shirts Up

“Get a tan, buddy!”

You won’t find the above quote in any book, movie, or TV show (or if you can, it isn’t what I’m referring to). I was walking with my lady friend with my shirt off on Sunday, and this extremely cool guy shouted it from his car as he was driving by. It took me a moment to realize what he said, but I glanced over and I’m 74% sure that he was wearing a wife beater and was thoroughly tanned. I, on the other hand, was thoroughly white and hairy.

What’s really important here is that I’m sure he was thoroughly satisfied at what he had done, and he did this at my expense (it was more than likely the most satisfying experience of his day). Such is the story of my life. I aim to satisfy (from an intellectual and entertainment perspective, you pervert) the readers of this site at my own expense. I just hope you’re getting your satisfaction. If you aren’t, maybe you can mosey on over to the 70’s Big Store because the new 70’s Big Throwback T-shirt is now available for purchase.

An excerpt:
Twisted steel and sex appeal are rampant with this vintage shirt that is a head on collision between the style of old and new. The strong guy on the front says, “Yeah, I barbell train,” and his better half says, “Yeah, squatting gives me a solid ass.” This shirt is guaranteed to turn some heads, and those heads will say, “Yeah, that guy (gal) is ready to party.”



Supplies are limited with the first printing because…uh, I don’t have a lot of money. I will more than likely have to make a new order in the next day or so. Also, let it be known that this is a new method of shipping the shirts, and there will undoubtedly be some kinks to work out.     I just have the shipping as a flat rate right now. I suppose I’ll eat the cost a bit until I figure it out.

    But what’s the ETA on the new designs? I want to get some, but I don’t want to get things shipped twice. I’d rather get a few designs at once.

    I’m not releasing another shirt for at least a month.

  4. Just ordered one new one. What happened to the humiliation of having to buy a ‘womens’ size if you can’t fit into a large?

    That humiliation will return. Was just trying to get the store functional.

    You should have no problem getting into that large shirt. I started on Feb 22 of this year and below are roughly my numbers.

    Then – Now
    weight 175 – 206
    Squat ~200 – 270
    Deadlift 300 – 360
    Bench 195 – 220

    I think my numbers could be a little better if I worked harder at eating but I am happy so far and will continue on.

  7. Perhaps there should be a tank top design so you can work on your tan AND wear it to work out. I know all the cool guys in my gym wear tank tops and do a lot of grunting while powering out that last bicep curl in MY f#@$ing power rack. Just a thought.

    I plan on releasing some kind of tank-top soon. Just because they are badass.

  8. Justin – There was some talk earlier about releasing a lady t-shirt. Is that still in the works? Just trying to see if I should hold out for that or get one of the new awesome t-shirts. Thanks!

    Yes, that is in the works. I don’t have a time frame yet, though. Depends if I sell enough of these to make the investment in the new shirt.

  9. I remember reading before that there were only men L-XXL and that the S and M’s were for the ladies.

    I’m a 5’4 small framed dude (5.5′ wrists) so I can really only wear S or M at best even when I fill out.

    Just to clarify are the S and M shirts just regular shits or are they the female-cuts?

  11. I hate that I even know what GTL stands for. I blame a chick I dated who was very much not 70sbig. Ugh. Time to go watch an hour of 60s and 70s Oly lifting clips on youtube as penance.

    Shirts are decent. I think I’ll hold out until the tanks.

    The tanks are not priority as far as shirts go. I wouldn’t expect them soon even though I said soon in that previous comment.

    It’s cool. I can wait. I’m trying to save money for a home gym anyway.

    Which brings me to my next point. I found a squat rack (competition style), a bench, 300lbs of weight, oly bar, and dumbbells on craigslist.com for $250. I don’t have the full amount currently.   15. How about a 70s Big Reader’s Pictures day? We all send in cool 70s Big related photos, with captions. Should make it a relatively easy day for you.

    Just put a note at the top of tomorrow’s article for submissions, so that everyone reads it. I’ve got some to send (I think I did send them, but they never made it up, even though they were freaking hilarious). But it’s okay, I can send them again. ;)

    Most pictures that are sent to me are lost in the e-mail trough. Sometimes it gets so backed up I don’t get to answer any e-mails.

  16. I like Sami’s idea. Actually, I’m thinking it could be a once-a-week thing, like PR Friday. In this case it would be something like “Submission Monday” (feel free to think of a better name), where you would post up all the 70’s big related pictures/videos submitted by viewers of the site. It would encourage reader participation, and it gives you another day during the week where you don’t have to think of anything original to post :D

  17. In theory, it would be a cool regular weekly feature, but Justin would probably need some backup anyway, just in case not enough people submit.

    And it’d probably be better for a Tuesday, since everyone can submit their weekend shenanigans on Monday.

  20. A good post might be on mental approach to a lift, especially in a meet situation. Thinking good thoughts, getting excited if appropriate, what’s the deal with smelling salts, etc.

    Just to clarify to you goons, I’ve made myself available for you to submit pictures since last September. I don’t post all of them, because not all of them are super awesome. Make sure they are.

    If we have a day of the week where we just have pictures of the readers, then they won’t have to meet such criteria. Ask and ye shall receive.

  24. I like the submissions idea, I think my dog is 70’s big so I want to submit his picture too, is that cool?

    Also, i know its not PR Friday but I have to say this.
    #1 PR 395×5 on DL
    #2 PR getting yelled at by a “trainer” at my gym, and then being told that I don’t need to dead lift that heavy. I was so pissed that she interrupted my set that i actually laughed in her face. I probably looked like a 70s ass but really lady… come on
