Tunes

“Hello. How ’bout that ride in? I guess that’s why they call it Sin City.”

There is a lot of useless research done on how music affects performance. More importantly, most of us probably train to some kind of music. More than likely we will think that what someone else listens to is pretty terrible (and you can read this as “I probably don’t like whatever you are listening to”). In any case, it might be interesting to see what everyone likes to listen to as they train. Thus the social observation begins, go ahead and post your favorite stuff to listen to as you train to the comments.

I myself like to listen to Chicago, especially the first and second album. I like Led Zeppelin and Queen too. I’ve listened to the Black Keys recently. When I was still doing an intensity day for squat on the Texas Method (as well as the later stages of my linear progression) my favorite songs to squat to were

Chicago – I’m A Man
Led Zeppelin – When the Levee Breaks
Led Zeppelin – Achilles Last Stand

Here is a video I posted a while back that has some of those songs (this was from the beginning of September):

But now I just let the album play out. I don’t need music to get my adrenaline up since I can get it extremely high mentally, but good music can help get you going when feeling lethargic.

A nice hearty breakfast.

I don”t want to start any controversy, but I”m not sure how crucial it is to learn how to get your head in the game without music.

I don”t think anyone here is saying this, but I can”t abide by the argument that not being able to get 100% focused without music is a sign of weakness.
I can think of at least one guy who likes very much to lift to the climbax of loud music, and is able to do so in competition. I think his name is Chuck. Pretty big Squatter.

I hear what some guys are saying: train how you play. If you”re in a Weightlifting meet or an IPA meet (I think), then you won”t have music the moment you”re playing.

Great. Fine. Whatever. Then while you”re on deck, listen to your song and get jacked up. Have your meet handler/friend tell you when it”s time to go. When you step to the platform, you”ll have the song stuck in your head and you”ll be ready to tear the weight off the floor.

  2. I warm up to Disturbed “Dropping Plates”

I like to listen to RATM “Calm Like a Bomb” and Danzig “How the Gods Kill” on repeat while I lift. I usually don”t ever really here the music either because of the intensity of the lifts.

Good post-some new music choices in mind

  3. Justin I got three questions

    1) what song is playing at 1:35 and the one in the closing credits?

    2) Are you or any of the 70””s big guys going to the Jan 21 Florida seminar? I””ll be there

I have three answers even though you have two questions.

    1. What video are you talking about?

    2. I will not be there.
