Warm-up Rooms

Some people haven’t seen a warm-up room at a meet, much less one at a national or international level meet. Here are some videos we recorded on Friday morning before the fellas lifted in the powerlifting meet.

Here is the powerlifting warm-up room:

Here is the USA Weightlifting warm-up rooms. There was one right behind the stage and another across the hall.

  1. I’m one of those people who’s never seen a warmup room at a meet, interesting.

One question I’ve had, this probably seems really stupid given that I follow this site pretty closely, but I’ve never known how much time exactly is in between each lift at a meet; on average how much time would it be from your last squat to your first bench attempt?

  2. Some things you can’t get from video, like what does that warmup room smell like? Chalk and ass I expect. I used to cheer, and the warmup gym always smelled like sweaty cooze. lol

It was cool talking to you in the warm-up area. Hailee is the blonde lifter on the platform at the end. She did well snatched 65, missed 68. C&J 79, 81 Turnedown for an elbow bend and then rocked 83. Third in the B session 6th overall in the 58k Class.

Glad to see the 70’s Big crew kicking butt.

  4. @Djay Tough question because it depends on the meet. There are so many variables like how many people are lifting, if they separate the weight classes into separate flights, etc. The key is to be prepared with food and so forth in case it drags on and to just go with the flow and adapt. It also wouldn’t hurt to have an experienced coach like Justin around. One thing I can say definitively is that I’ve never felt rushed at a meet. I’ve always had ample time to warm up, if anything, the problem seems to be where the meet gets behind and you have too much time to kill.
