Today I’m in the city of D.C. without a computer, so let’s play a game. Send tweets to @70sBig and I’ll answer them as I look at museums and shit.
There will be videos to come from this weekend.

PR Friday?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izcCzulXdoE&feature=plcp&context=C38bef8eUDOEgsToPDskKDorU09Bxm2oKFEYcmPOvX
160kg Front Squat.
PRs:
Deadlift: 425 5×1; 345 5×3 w/double overhad
Bench: 290 3×1
First bench PR in about 9 months on Monday. Unfortunately I tweaked/pulled something in my thoracular lumbar fascia area while setting up for the next rep. It was a pretty sharp, instant pain. I think my belt sort of pinched some of the muscle away from the bottom of my rib. I’ve done standard muscle pull treatment (ice, heat, nsaid, etc.) but haven’t been able to train or even really open a door pain free since. Very frustrating. I haven’t taken a full week off in about 4 months so I guess worse things could have happened. Looking forward to the seminar this weekend. Hopefully I’ll be able to lift.
Had a good week, still feeling a bit beaten down, but getting better.
3RM 45kg Press
100kg Front Squat
Squat: 170 kg (~375 lbs) for 3 sets of 5
Bench: 120 kg (~265 lbs) x4 (aimed for 5 reps – this sucked)
Will transfer completely to TM on monday. Maybe I could get another 3 sets of 5 with 172,5 kg, but today´s squats were extremely hard and I don´t want to drive my dick into the ground before starting on TM.
Squat: 305x3x3
Dead: 430×3
Bench: 225×10
Watched a guy clean and jerk 168 kilos and snatch 132 kilos last weekend at the Baltimore open. It was friggin amazing.
BW: 93 kg (~205 lbs)
Competed in the Baltimore Open Saturday. Snatch was off, but I C7J 68 kg, which is a competition PR for me.
Also squatted 215×10, which is a volume PR.
Matched my PR by Benching 215 3×5 with my grip slipping out at the ends and make it significantly harder. Going to bring some chalk next time so 220 should be cake.
Hoping to work up to 350+ 3×5 on squats by thursday of next week for some new PRs, because I’ll be doing intramural soccer in 2-3 weeks and that will kill my recovery
Squat: 315×5 – Ugly as hell but I finally got it. And I totally saw stars during the set.
Press: 165 3×5
Deadlift: 365×3 – First DL PR since August. Could and should have pulled it for 5. Will get 370×5 next week.
Food PR:
Yesterday I ate so much meat during the day that I had serious difficulty to sleep.
It was something like holiday here in Greece. The tradition demands everybody to have for lunch & dinner grilled pork. Also,in the morning, in every 2nd block there’s a mini grill set in the pavement where the passengers can get some grilled pork for free :)
This week got my first oly shoes, the Romaleos. Amazing!
DL 375 x 5, really haven’t been pushing my deadlift 5-rep sets recently, as 3’s feel better on my back.
cool video from Misha Koklyaev:
BW 180
FSQ 245×3 (not sure if this was a PR – it was pretty easy).
Press: 150x5x3
Palms up Pendlay (strict): 175x5x5
Incline: 180x5x3
Deficit Dead (2.5inch): 405×1, 365×5
Sensibility PR – getting over a mini-flu today, so I’m going to go super light instead of being an idiot.
Bodyweight: 163
Squat: 330
Dead: 390
Bench: 235 easy, 250 plastered me.
All are PRs, so a pretty good week.
Finally seeing some PRs this week, either tied or legit.
Deadlift: 405×5- beltless this time, with WL shoes. Forgot to chalk up, lost the last rep during lockout. Stupid grip.
Press: hit 150×5 twice, 155×3, and 160×1 in the past few days. Frequency pressing is the shiznit.
Nothing worth noting on bench and squat.
Question for Justin/anybody who reads this. I know about the advocacy for deadlifting in weightlifting shoes, but jesus christ is it easier to pull in chucks for me. I really don’t get it, why the hell is it so much more difficult?
PR for a daily training total today:
140 kg – 61 kg snatch (ties current PR), 79 kg C&J (current jerk PR is 80).
Missed 63 kg PR snatch attempt and then missed the PR jerk attempt at 82 kg. Both close, but close does not count.
@enlightenedsnipe
If you are a long-legged type of guy I don’t think it’s particularly advisable to pull in heeled shoes.
First post here.
Oly Squat 5x 140 PR
Bench 2x5x 75 VPR @60 BW, all kilograms
First C&J since December, form much better than expected
pulling in WL shoes is kind of dumb. Get some chucks or flatter shoes for that.
Could weigh more, could lift a lot more; but I guess I’m slowly getting there.
PRs:
Squat 120kgx5x3 (265lbs)
Bench 75kgx5 (165)
Deadlift 125kgx5 (275)
Body weight: 68kg (150)
Mobilised enough to perform a full snatch/overhead squat with the bar.
Just invested in a prowler, and currently eating lamb patties, spicy chicken breast, sweet potatoes and grapes.
DL PR
375X5
Hook gripped it, my thumbs were numb for half the day!
I pull in VS athletics shoes, with a pretty high heel. I used to use Chucks, but this recent go round I think the combination of the DOH hook grip and lifting shoes helped my setup position.
Not that anyone here would really care about this sort of thing, but I ran a 5k and beat my time from last year by a couple minutes. Took some time off lifting this week because the training kinda wrecked me. Gonna hit it hard week after next.
@ J.T. – Several minutes is a huge improvement! How did you cut that sort of time off?
(I’m assuming you didn’t go from like, 45 to 35, because if that’s the case no one cares)
Push Pressed #245 for a PR, not very impressive. Pulled #515 for 3 singles, then rack pulled until I almost passed out, good times. Also, watched the whole 1984 WSM – Ab Wolders is a fucking maniac. Winter isn’t so bad after all. Time to go find some Swedes and push a sled at a full sprint.
Pressed 210 x 3
It was alright.
@harveymushman Close, I went from 38 to 35. Still, not bad for a fat guy who never did any running until about a year and a half ago.
Lost more weight, pulled 495×3 ezpz.
Squatted 366 for a triple. Wasn’t easy, but it’s the most weight I’ve had on my back in… 4 months? Something like that.
PR on Low Back Squat: 345 1×5, easy.
Gearing up for a 1×5 Deadlift PR next Thursday. 405.
5 Rep Bench PR:
Benched 217.5 x 5r x 3s
ATG Back Squat PR:
340 x 1r
Just started HB squatting. I’m enjoying it:
HBBS: 160kg *5 * 2, 140kg * 10
Doing a sort of GSLP thing with LBBS.
LBBS: 162.5kg *5 * 2, 162.5kg * 8 PR!
Recent Press PR: 90kg = BW
@tnumrych awesome video.
Had a sweet workout, first one after a nasty cold:
LBBS: 160kg*3 (No PR but heaviest squat this year)
Press: 75kg x 3 (PR)
PC: 82kg 5×3 (PR, heavy, but acceptable form on most)
Deadlift: 190kg x 2 also pulled 180kg x 1 with hook grip for the first time (awesome feeling, will keep doing these) both PR:s
Taking next week off for some skiing, then I will switch to Sheiko 29, pretty stoked about that. Have been running TM with decent result up till now but my form seems to deteriorate as I struggle upwards weightwise. As the sheiko template offers massive volume with lower intensity this will allow me to focus on form rather than keep pushing the weights. Worth a try, right?
Anyways, great job everyone, cheers!
this week:
pressed 145×10
squatted (hb) 270×7
benched 255×12
pulled 405×8
on the first week of wendlers (3rd cycle thru)
Hit 195x5x3reps, then 195×15 for a Floor Press PR today.
Nothing crazy I know.
I’m about done with my LP of deadlifts. Pr is 420×5 and I’m back up to 412×5 after a reset. My shoulders are starting to roll forward at rep 4..5…
Tried rack pulling for the first time ever just for a change up and worked up to 500×1, was pretty stoked for my first ever 5xxlbs lift.
Justin, a couple years ago you wrote about progressing the deadlifts and seemed to like the 5/3/1 scheme or a version of… If I make the switch do you advocate any of the accessory templates like boring but big? Seems like a lot of volume.
The switch to HBBS is going well, 275lbs x 5,510. Still 50lbs off my LBBS pr but I’ll get there…and with a lot less elbow pain.
I just returned home from the WABDL Winter Classic in Orlando, FL held today, 2/18/12.
Bench:
182.5kg (402.3lbs)
195kg (429.9)
200kg (440.9) – meet PR
Deadlift:
247.5kg (545.6lbs)
272.5kg (600.7)
282.5KG (622.8) – meet and overall PR
All lifts were raw – t-shirt and singlet – at a bodyweight of 236.2lbs.
Nice lifts hercules!
I competed in RAW United Wounded Warrior Project Benefit Meet. Broke PRs in all my lifts. Totaled more than I expected. Had room for more. Pumped.
Squat: 445, 475, 500 – 15lb PR
Bench: 275, 300, 315 – 15lb PR
DL: 495, 535, 565 – 40 lb PR
Bodyweight: 217
@Jmoye
Great job! Spero puts on some awesome meets.
Ready to go to the Arnold. Planning my schedule now.
Justin, Nice 330# Clean and Jerk that Rudy posted over the weekend.
