Raw Powerlifting Gals

Monday’s are dedicated to displaying or helping female lifters and trainees. Today’s feature is a couple more regular women who are pretty damn strong. Jen Higgins of CrossFit Works sent me the e-mail but was mostly talking about how great of a lifter Liz Cameron is.

This is Liz pulling 286.5 lbs (130kg) weighing 114 (52kg weight class).

That’s pretty solid technique for a max rep, especially for a female (round backs are the norm). Jen told me how Liz is about half her age, but was a great training partner as they readied for the 100% RAW Single Lift Worlds in Las Vegas. Liz’s best competition bench is 150lbs and her best competition squat is 220 (weighing 110). Liz has won the Best Female Lifter in the two meets that she’s competed in! She also teaches salsa dancing and apparently is “frequently sighted in short dresses and high heels”. Jen conveniently didn’t send pics of this claim.

All of this is high praise from Jen Higgins as she is also pretty damn strong. Here’s a video of her pulling a really clean looking 292.1 lbs (132.5 kg) in the 123 lbs/56kg weight class.

Well done, ladies.

  1. We need a how to get your weenie ass friends to train series as well. I’m having hell getting my jiu jitsu and MMA buddies to pick up a barbell.

One of them just failed his blue belt test because he got demolished by 13 year old boy who DOES lift, and yet, they’d rather continue with the jiujitsu and bicep curls only plan. Thoughts?

Oh man, I’d kill myself if I lost to a 13 year old. I say that, but I know a 14 year old who would beat me extremely easily in judo.

  2. @terrible

Be sweet if she left the platform/sweet section of carpet, flanked by her two dobermans, to her awaiting helicopter outside flown by her black friend who did tours in ‘Nam.

    I’m gonna go lift now.

what do you consider acceptable with regards to rounded backs for females? Should they be treat the same as men?

I have a couple of girls who you could call lifting CFers, one 56 and one 60kg (Louise and Laura). Louise pulls 125×3 and Laura 122.5×3 (Louise is 5’3 and Laura 5’6), but because they’re women I do hold them back more than the guys.

  4. LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

also, i’m talking to the UNT powerlifting club president tonight about competing in the USAPL meet on december 10th. hellllll yessssssss.

i heard some cool guys from 70s big will be there?

  5. “That’s pretty solid technique for a max rep, especially for a female (round backs are the norm)”

Could you explain/expand upon this statement?

  6. Thunder Thighs – it’s a damn shame that meet is twice as far from me as the one on Dec 17th in San Antonio. My lady friend and I will be competing at the Southside Classic in San Antonio instead of the Holiday Classic in Carrollton. Not sure if anyone else on the site will be there…anyone?

  7. @Davekind that is all too common with many bjj guys I know. They say technique beats strength but all whine when a wrestler or judo player that strength trains “muscles” them, and since they used their strength they have no technique. I don’t get why many think the 2 are mutually exclusive.

  8. There’s a girl who competes in the same federation as me and Marotta who puts up some pretty solid numbers…

19 years old, competed at like 170lbs I think, deadlifted ~400.

  9. Hey guys, Liz and I train in Tucson AZ. We are hosting an All Women’s Meet (unsanctioned) (www.AllWomenStrengthChallenge.com) this Saturday so hopefully we’ll have some awesome videos of super strong women for you soon. After I finish being a powerlifter I will look into the whole spy thing. Although my temperment is not really the calm, cool collected variety!
