  1. Got a meet next week, so it doesn’t look like I’ll be doing the challenge until maybe two weeks from now…I think I’ll try my hand at the “tank division” hoping not to be in last place.

  2. If I can Squat 405x5x5 but have never Benched 315 (current max 305) should I do tank?

    —–
Your squat numbers are high enough that you should consider Tank. I couldn’t sniff 405x5x5. It would be nice to get at least one rep on bench, and I imagine you can. The most I benched in an 8 month period was 240×11 a couple weeks ago, yet I hit 315×4. You just have to get amped up (I nearly threw up on the platform before I started squatting).

    Don’t go for 1. Go for 2.

    -Gant

  3. @225 with a bodyweight of 205
20 reps squat- all mental game here
2 reps bench- my weak point
19 reps dl- gym was closing and I got lazy and mentally weak

I am really disapointed with my deadlift but I know that next time I will crush it. I have been using the Safety Squat Bar for 3 weeks now because I hurt my shoulder and this is the first time in almost a month that I have low bar squatted and it felt great.

  4. Also I hope we do a CrossFit (YES CF) Total competition this summer. Squat, Press, Conventional DL makes for a good competition and better focus on strength than the last two.

They are called something else ’round these parts. Don’t know what. But, yes, it is a completely different type of meet, IF YOU DO IT CORRECTLY. Maybe we can get some meets to be hosted, because you can’t do the total without the meet, because that’s part of the deal. It is run like a weightlifting meet with the above mentioned lifts, and this is very different than a power meet.

  5. BW: 168 @ 5’7″

Squats: 15 (kept going for a few more but after 15 was taking >5 sec rests)
    Bench: 5
Deadlift: 19 (lost grip on 20)

Great idea. It was fun to try something different.

  6. Hmm, I could do sets of 315 for the BS and DL, but never BP.

However, I should hit about 50 with 225, maybe 1 on the BP, hopefully.

  7. Hit the TSC yesterday…I initially started at the prescribed 225lbs and realized I’ll need to bump up to the Tank Division.

    Squats: 32
    Bench: 12
    Deadlift: 31

My partner, who was counting my reps, said I could have easily hit 35 reps on my squats and deads. He said my form was solid throughout the movements. My bench bench on the other hand was a little disappointing…but I think that has a little to do with doing a set of 6x5x235 the day before.

I’ll hit the 315 TSC this Friday…hoping to pull out 15-5-15 on the lifts.

  8. Guys,
The TSC is not the May Challenge. Look here: http://www.tacticalstrengthchallenge.com (deadlift, pull-ups, KB snatches). That was last month. This month is the 225# for reps challenge.

Two buddies and I did the challenge this morning, I’ll let them post up their numbers.

    225# division.
    Squat: 28 (meet PR 355#)
Bench: 4 (meet PR 260# and I haven’t been training it)
Deadlift: 25 (meet PR 390#, sumo DLs after max-rep squats suck)

Video’d the whole thing for my training journal. Good way to spend a Sunday morning workout!

  9. When I select the “Click Here” link for the May Challenge info, all I see is a blank gray background where the post should be. All else looks normal though. Issue with that page or my viewing capability? All other posts can be viewed just fine. Thanks.

Fixed. You had to be logged in, but now it’s good to go. Mistake on my part, didn’t know WP would make it a member-only thing.

  10. God I’m weak…still this was fun to have a go at. I had about a 0.5% chance of benching 225, since my current work sets are around 175-180. That would have been a massive PR; still I tried to push it up but no go. Hell, just unracking it was a challenge. Deadlift was harder than I thought it was going to be. Male, 43 y.o., 200#:

    Squat – 225# x 20

    Bench – 225 x 0

    Deadlift – 225 x 10

This would be fun to revisit, but not for a while. Good luck all.

  11. Current bodyweight 93.5kg (205 lbs). Male, 47 years old. I didn’t have pound plates, so I used 102.5kg (226 lbs), 225 lbs division.

    Squat: 21 reps
    Bench: 10 reps
    Deadlift: 23 reps
    Total: 54 reps

  12. Ht. – 6′0”
    Wt. – 285lbs

    Bench – 225×6
    Squat – 225×15
    Dead lift – None

-I hurt my back in high school dead lifting and it always acts up when ever i dead lift now even with a belt. Any suggestions on how to help my back when dead lifting and how to get my numbers up for max reps in squat and bench? Thanks all!

  13. Been a lurker for a while but May’s challenge pulled me in! Site is awesome…nuff said.

Attempted the challenge on Tuesday 11th. Was confident I could do 225 but not sure how I fare with multiple reps at 315 so stuck with the open divison…

    Squat=22
    Bench Press=10
    Deadlift=61
    Total=93

Felt like I could’ve pushed for a few more squats but had done my normal sessions earlier in the day so…

Perhaps I’ll take a shot at the 315?

  14. 225lbs
squat- 30 shoulders gave out. bar slipping
bench- 10 i have a little boy chest
deadlift- 30 grip on left hand gave out. sprained it a month ago. never healed right.
all in all not as hard as i thought it would be. then again i used to crossfit and those people are glutons for unecessary pain.

  15. This is cool as I just started up on a 20 rep squat routine this week after about three weeks off.

Speaking of stupid tests of strength, what about “tanks” repping out at 315# and then dropping to 225#. That could be interesting.

Looking at Memorial Day to attempt.

  16. 1st post here.
    6 foot
    215 lbs
    225 division

    14 Squats
    3 Bench Press -PR
    21 Dead Lift

All up from a 185 bw
    205 squat
    185 bench
and who knows about the dead lift
    from 3 months ago.

  17. bench 95×1 (that’s a PR of +13lbs)
    squat 135×17
    deadlift 135×27

i’ve never done high reps before. it’s an interesting feeling. i know i could have tried for a few more reps in the squat and deadlift, but i got intimidated (and lazy, can’t lie).

it’s been a couple hours since i did it and my forehead is still pounding.

i really appreciate the 95 bench for the ladies division. thanks!

  18. Okay I took the challenge last night
    Here are my stats
    6’2″ 235lbs
    225 division
    Squats 27
    Bench 7
    Deads 35

I could try the tank division but I can’t bench 315. Maybe I’ll try 315 for just squats and deads.

  19. Update…
I, just the other day, bought an Olympic weight bench and weight set… its a Powerhouse.. got it on the cheap too. $100 for the bench, bar, and 255lbs of weights… sooooo i sacked up and deadlifted today at 225lb for max reps…

    Ht. – 6′0”
    Wt. – 284lbs

    Bench – 225lb X 6 reps
    Squat – 225lb X 15 reps
    Dead lift – 225lb X 21 reps

    Total reps: 42

Also.. the Mustache is coming in DY-NO-MITE!…

    WILDCARD BITCHES!!!

  20. Sean
    5’9” 223lbs.
    Tank Division

    Squat 315×16
    Bench 315×1
    Deadlift 315×18

    Total: 35 reps @ 315lbs.

Good challenge, haven’t done a high-rep set of squats in a while (as the numbers show), and the 5 second limit between reps was a bit of a monkey wrench, especially in the deads.

  21. In a particularly crappy GloboGym with HORRIBLE bars and octagon plates, no chalk and “make noises like that again and you’re out” staff:

    Ladies Div:
    Squat 20
    Bench 9 (PR!)
    Deadlift 21

I so want to try again with chalk and a belt… sigh.

  22. Justin, I feel like this is a dumb question, but did you and any of the rest of your 70’s Big posse do the challenge? Post #’s!,

Gant did, his results are in the sticky post for May. I did not. I have Senior Nationals for Oly in the middle of June. AC, Brent, Chris, and Mike all have USAPL Raw Nationals in mid July, and we have individual and team goals for that. It wouldn’t be smart to do something that could hamper training for national events at this point.

Are you wanting numbers just for the hell of it? Chris pulled an easy 600 the other day, squatted a very easy 550 triple. AC just pressed (overhead) 240 for a triple and squatted 515 for a triple. Brent pulled around 450 for an easy single. Mike volume squatted 425x5x5, deadlifted 530 or so for a single. I’ve snatched 130 in training and have missed 132.5 and 135 a few times. I fixed my jerk, and jerked 160 out of the rack and I aim to hit at least that on Monday. Brent squatted 430 for a triple.

We aren’t professional lifters, but it’s not like we’re over here fucking around.

    –Justin

  23. @Justin: Impressive, guys. I was just curious b/c you guys are all pretty damn big, so I was curious to see how your results ranked up against everyone else on here (in no way did I mean to sound condescending or was I implying that you were just “fucking around”, to steal your term). Just curious, thanks again for this BA site.

  24. 6′0 VERY tall female with bodaciously long femurs! age: 44

Guess I need to eat MORE…uggh. any ladies out there trying to add wt too? Been lifting as an “activity” for 10 yrs , finally read SS and now want to get STRONG, not “tone”. still only 8 weeks into SS, with 5lb linear progressions every time so still adapting. 26. “Speaking of stupid tests of strength, what about “tanks” repping out at 315# and then dropping to 225#. That could be interesting.”

Well, I did try the 225 on BS/DL early this month and hit 15&20 but I would like to try 315 and see if I can do 5+ on each. Bench will be 225 if I’m lucky.

Yes, I weigh a plump 170 but I’m 5’1 so I’m shorter than Rudy and belong in a hole as Justin once pointed out.

  27. Female, 5’3″, 198 lbs.
Quads still sore from Friday’s squats.

    squat@135: 16
    bench@135: 9
    bench@95: 16
    deadlift@135: 20

If I’m feelin’ froggy later in the week I might see how many squats and deads I can get at 225.
Post workout recovery meal is still on the to-do list.

    Y’all have a great week!

  28. BW 300#

    225# Open Division

    Squat- 15
    Bench- 8
    Deadlift- 10

I don’t know what happened on the deadlift. I planned to hit 20 and just gave out. Maybe I will try again before the time is up.

  29. BW 170ish 5’+

BS-19, fail on concentric of 20
    BP-fail@225, 200×2.
    DL-26.

Better than earlier this month. Totally forgot to try 315 on BS/DL.

  30. BW 223

    225 lb. division

    Squat – 22 (might’ve been 23 or 21, I think I saw Jesus after 20)

    Bench – 10

Dead – 12…this I didn’t understand. I can usually rep pretty well and my PR is 405. Maybe the squats killed me: I did another set of 8 after I failed at 12 to punish myself.
