I did that tuesday, today I took a CPAT for the Prince William County Fire Department. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8hy5_7MZ9E) That’s not me, my time was 8:48. Not bad considering my 2 practice runs were 9:50 and 9:31. Maximum allowed is 10:20.

Because only 11/20 guys used a 24kg kettle bell I included included a couple alternate ranks dealing with that in different ways.
Dear 70’s Big,
I have been following S. S. for a couple of months now and everything has been going well. The only problem that I have run into thus far has been the progression of my press. I have gone from 115 x 5 x 3 up to 135 x 5 x 3.
Here in lies my problem. When I tried 140 x 5 x 3 I was unable to complete all five reps for my second and third set. I have reset twice now by dropping down 10% and working back up and still am unable to complete all three sets across. Today, however, I was able to complete 140 x 3 x 5.
My question is whether or not I should move to an intermediate program for just my press (i.e. dynamic effort sets) and continue milking the linear progression gains on Starting Strength. Thanks for the help Ladies and Gents.
Regards,
Matt Geer
How tall are you and how much do you weigh?

Matt,
have you tried making smaller than 5 pound jumps on press? That’s the way to go. I was stuck at 140 just like you. I got some 2 inch washers and have progressed past 155 now. Find you some microplates or 2 inch washers and start microloading. That should keep things moving along nicely. Look for the washers at a place like Fastenal.
Matt, consider this another vote for micro-loading the press, as Ryan mentioned. I got stuck at 150 3×5 several times, went through the reset process each time, then finally switched to 1.25lb plates, and marched right up to 162.5 3×5 before getting injured outside of the gym. Working my way back up and will already be switching to 2.5lb jumps on my next workout @ 152.5.
Ryan and Jacob,
Thanks for the help guys. The only reason I have been making 5 lbs. jumps is because 2 1/2 lbs. plates are the smallest my gym has.
Ryan you had mentioned Fastenal, is that a distributor where I could go about purchasing some micro-plates?
Thanks for the help.
Regards,
Matt Geer
I’m not sure why but I just noticed that my TSC results, which I posted on the last PR Friday post, didn’t get included on that spreadsheet. Maybe they got overlooked? FWIW, bodyweight 185, 465 DL, 20 pullups, 76 snatches.
Fastenal sells bolts and other fasteners. That’s where I bought my 2 inch washers. I got six. I believe they have a website. Google it. Much cheaper than microplates.
My results are mad late. apologies guys, don’t expect to be included in the listing, however for accountability’s sake, here it is.
