T-Shirt Design

Quick post today (it was my birthday yesterday, so give me a break), and it is mainly a call to arms. I have been referencing a new t-shirt design on the site, and the ideas are narrowed down. However, none of us have the ability to create the image on a computer to get it ready to go to print. If there are any of you who specialize in logo or image design and want to create the next 70’s Big shirt as a side project, e-mail me. We can work out the logistics, but you will be getting some shirts and the image will be credited to your name (which will potentially bring you business to make other simple logos for gym t-shirts, logos, etc.). If you aren’t a “professional”, you could always send in a few things as part of a “mini portfolio” to entice me.

This was the original logo that was used on the first shirt.

Note: The Bill Starr Memorial weightlifting meet was held at the WFAC this past Saturday. Things went well for most of the lifters at the meet, and I will have a recap on it tomorrow (a video will not be up tomorrow, but will be in due time). It is important to note that Bill Starr is very much alive, and the “memorial” is a Texas joke.

  1. Happy birthday, Justin!

Sorry if this question has been answered before; do you think it””s better to use the stretch reflex out of the bottom on a set of presses, or to start each rep from a dead stop, like a set of DLs?

After the initial learning process, a stretch reflex is preferable. You will be stronger with it.

  2. @Jake

Justin has always coached the lifters at our gym to use the reflex at the bottom, and a really quick in-out breath at the top of each rep (quick as in a half second pause/breath)

I used to start at a dead stop, and once Justin converted me, presses got a lot easier.

  3. I blazed the current 70””s Big shirt at the Arnold Classic. Since it wasn””t soaked in N.O. Explode, i don””t think anybody noticed.

It might have helped if you were jacked and tan

  4. I can”t draw, and don”t have any software to create this, but how about:
(Picture of Milk Carton) + (Picture of stick man doing deep squats) = Picture of Doug Young

And on the back the 70”s big logo with The Pizz

  5. I”d like to see a shirt with one of the greatest Rip quotes ever (slightly modified) “70”s Big, because the universe doesn”t give a s@#! about strength to weight ratio”

  6. I kinda want just a cool t-shirt to wear anywhere. Not a novelty, ironic, comical shirt. Not something I”m going to keep getting asked questions about all the damn time (though I suppose that can be a good thing for ”The Cause”).

The original didn”t quite do it for me. Even just a black or dark grey t-shirt with just the 70sBig.com banner across the chest and/or back, like the one from the top of the site, would be pretty cool.

  7. I HOPE YOUR BIRTHDAY WAS FAROUT RADICAL!

I like the idea of a simple shirt too.

Another design could be based off of old Op designs. Op is surf brand that was popular in the 70”s. I don”t know shit about designing shit otherwise I would help out Justin.

And a word of advice to all belt owners, when rolling your belt to put into gym bag, make sure your eyeball is not struck by insertion end of belt. If it does happen just blame it on a unintentional caloric deficit.

  8. My wife made this suggestion before you had this listed. She wanted a Tuxedo t-shirt, but instead of a Tux, Doug Young”s “hairy, gleaming, man chest” as she calls it. No Idea how you would do that, but I would wear it.

  9. Hey guys I was wondering I””m going to train in my gym class for the first time tomorrow (I usually train by my own at night) same as usual beside the fact that it will be without a belt. I””ve ordered my own but in the mean time I use one at my gym. Should I use same working weights for squats and DLs without using a belt? if not what am I supposed to be lifting with?

Does your school gym not have belts?

  10. My school gym does not have belts indeed :( We have a nice weightlifting platform with bumper plates and everything but no belts. I was a bit like o_O when I was answered too. So what do I do when I have to train at school until I get my own belt? Same weights? I””m unsure

Wait, is this only going to be one time?

  11. @mr big

Ticketmaster, but you could also have walked through the front door (one of the Crossfit sectionals contenders was puking by a trash can as we entered) and traded 10 bucks for a wristband.

No idea what they were charging to spray on abs at the liquid tan booth, though.

  12. No it””s going to be one time a week until I get my own belt so… around 3 to 5 times I guess… The two other times in the week I have it though.
I got a belt from bestbelts but paypal processing takes awhile and then Dean has to ship it from US to Canada so it might be awhile…

You might just have to go lighter on that one day each week

  13. Nuts. Posting fail.

    Previous post should read:
    Girlfriend wants shirt to say
    I (Heart) 70sBig
    on front and
    Adult Males (greater than)200lbs
    on the back.

Maybe attempt to use punctuation interfered with blog script?

I dunno. The server is goofy with some coding — out of my bailiwick. The site will be transferred to a new server, and those problems should desist.
