Well 70’s Big journeymen (journeywomen?), it is PR Friday. You should post your weight lifted, gained, and/or consumed, and you should also tell us about lifting your lady friends, dumping your skinny boyfriends, or splitting your trousers (I ripped another pair of jeans recently).
And for gods’ sakes, if you are a guy who is 5’7″ or taller and you aren’t 200 pounds, then you better have a compelling excuse as to why you aren’t. The only reasons I can think of are if you are 13 years old or you are a weight class competitor. For gods’ sakes.

I have a very good friend named Matt that I met in college. Until recently he was getting paid to tramp through the wilderness (we went hiking near Salt Lake City last year when I was in town for a barbell seminar), and at the end of last year he stopped by Wichita Falls on his journey back to Georgia. Matt called me the other night with a story, as he is apt to do. When he finished, I told him that he needs to type it up for the site.
Well, I’ve read the hell out of Starting Strength and watched the video quite frequently to try and get my technique down, and it sparked quite a dream.
I have been to the Wichita Falls Athletic Club before when I visited Justin in order to start my Jedi training. In the dream, I walked into the gym, and it was just like I remember. It was extremely busy with people everywhere, and Justin greeted me and asked me to work behind a new counter they had built for the purpose of renting out lifting shoes. He was busy training the masses as I settled behind the counter. I hadn’t been standing there ten seconds when I was approached by a visitor, some 90’s small chump who was asking when the next Pilates class was. It is important to note that this guy was: A) not wearing a shirt, B) had the kind of pencil thin manicured beard that says I spend 30 minutes daily “man-scaping”, and C) was wearing sunglasses inside. Throughout the rest of my story I will refer to this man as Din Viesel, because he probably got his style from the “Fast and Furious” movies that he can probably recite.
Note by Justin: I find this humorous, because in order for Matt to dream about a Din Viesel-like character, he would have had to had the image in his brain prior to dreaming it, therefore he actually sat through some portion of that shitty movie.
I had no idea what to say and almost laughed in his face. Rip heard the question and took it upon himself to intervene. I can’t remember all of the conversation, but Mr. Viesel was a complete dick and he decided to buck (I recently learned this word from a 7th grader) at Rip after being informed that they most certainly don’t “do Pilates”. Rip asked Viesel to “Get out of my fucking gym,” in an enraged tone. The conflict now had the attention of everyone in the gym. Suddenly, Viesel tried to throw a haymaker, but Rip didn’t hesitate. He rushed Viesel, picked him up high above his head, then with his supreme power he slammed him into the ground. (Important: I went to High School in Macon Georgia… so I should know the name of this wrestling move, but I don’t). Right after the powerful slam, I immediately woke up, laughing my ass off.
I’ve attached a diagram to better understand the “slam.” This is not my best work, but it took only 5 minutes.
Weight PR: 200 lbs!!! Yet i still look skinny at 6””1””””…

Nice mr blink! I finally hit 200# bodyweight this week too.
Lifting PRs will be tomorrow, but I”m confident that I”ll squat 390×1.
Only one PR this week, bench 290×4 (missed the last rep, damn it). It is amazing how a teeny, tiny little loss of focus on a 5RM set will cause you to just totally blow a rep.

Well I have 1 PR for the week. We are having a small non sanctioned PL meet at the gym tomorrow. Monday I tried to find where I am at. I want to BS 500 so I tested 465 because I thought it would be easy and I crushed it. So

tomorrow I plan to bust out 500.
Push pressed my wife. But I almost dropped her because she was squirming around. She said I was hurting he back. I had her supine with one hand at the upper back and one at the lower. Justin, I think we need some technique demo videos.
Pressing a female is impressive, but dropping her will get you voted off the island!
For shit’s sake don’t drop your wife. You guys keep calling for a “pressing the lady” when they are lying horizontal. This is impractical, and will not fill her with glee, but fear instead. Just put your hands under her armpits and press up, but you may need some moderate lean back to try and get her center of mass over your balance point (the middle of the foot). Then you can blow fart noises on their stomach. Fart noises are always funny.

Rugby season is going to slow down the lifting PRs for a while, but I have managed to reach a body weight of 290lbs at 6”5.

Dude was working out in a wife-beater and had it rolled up in the front to show his abs. Would do a lift or 2 and then check to make sure his shirt was still rolled up. It was awesomely 90””s.

Competing in my first PL meet with my GF Corrine on Sunday. Just found out it’s at Team Super Training’s gym, which the gym of Mark “Smelly” Bell from the movie “Bigger, Faster, Stronger.” Should be an interesting experience!
Also, here’s a video of my GF squatting 245 at a BW of 117. I hope she doesn’t get sued by Lindsey Lohan for the bit at the end!

The straw that broke the camel”s back for me wanting to get bigger and stronger came at my brother-in-law”s birthday party this past August. At the time I was 6”3″ 190lbs. I was standing at the bar ordering a beer and my brother-in-law”s friend came up to me and said, “What”s up stretch?” Needless to say I was pretty pissed. Fast forward to today as I was walking down the hall in my barracks. I passed an officer and gave him the greeting of the day to which he replied, “What”s up big guy.”
Fuck yes, get 70”s big!
Unbelieveable. Rips demonstrates the power of DAD strong again in the most comical of ways. That no silly bullshit sticker really defines the WFAC.

Do you still look scrawny at 250+? I hit 200 at 6””1”””” today and after gaining weight from 150 lbs, i still look scrawny. Im just trying to make an estimate on how much more weight i need to gain to not look skinny anymore.

Matt s story and illustration are fucking epic, I laughed my ass of for some reason.
No PRs for squats or deads yet, but the back is feeling great, and the weight is moving back up quickly.
Pressed an easy 211 for a PR. And my BW is up to 242 even though the weight belt had to get tightened another notch.

As of Monday the squat is up to 275 for three sets of five. Felt like there was more in the tank, so I”ll try out 280 or 285 today and see how it goes.
I”m now down to three pairs of pants that still fit, and none of them are jeans – they”re all ripped or too tight. Looks like a trip to the jeans store is in order.

You probably just think you look scrawny. No doubt you”re much less scrawny than you were. Perception is relative – I mean, if you spent a few months with a group of 150 lb”ers and one 190 lb”er, you would no doubt come to view the 190”er as “big”. Do the same thing with a group of 250”ers and that same 190”er, then the 190”er would start to look pretty small.
I thought I still looked pretty scrawny (and I do compared to what a full-size man should look like), but then I looked at a picture of myself from last August.
Then I felt huge for a little while.
Then I went to the gym where this guy was squatting 625 in the next rack. Needless to say I felt small again after that.

This is true. Since most of the people i hang out with do the weirdest lifting routines. Let me give you an example.
My friend who is 5”9”” and 205 lbs is doing 1 set of 15 reps of everything in the weightroom. Why? Because thats what his boating instructor at lifeguard camp told him to do to get stronger and – dare i say it…TONED.
Now your point is correct that i may look scrawny compared to my friends because i am significantly taller than them but i still need to gain weight as i want to play rugby in the fall and any extra fat that i gain while training to build strength and muscle will be burnt during pre season and the season.

New Bench Press pr 291. Hit 201 for my bodyweight the other day. The other night at work I split the leg of my pants….and I liked it.
I lift in a weight class so I”m only just over 170 (5” 9””). I used to be 120 – long story. I just started this stuff as I”m trying to go up in weight classes.

All of my weight is in my dwarfish torso, which makes me thicker than a dancer in a rap video. I dont look scrawny but I have chicken legs which makes me look awkward and hilarious. As far as a target weight for not looking scrawny, shoot for 275, that might put you in the 70s big category.
Hillarious story. I checked out a new gym in my area today and it made me want to start slapping people. I mean they had sweet stuff such as an olympic platform and bumpers but only one squat rack and everything, I mean everything, was colored aquamarine. And the kettlebells were pink, purple and light orange.
