PR Friday

I completely forgot what day it was when I was typing the post last night. Here is a double post so that we can catch up on PR Friday. Remember that weight gain, food intake, weight lifted, and clothes ruined are all considered PR’s.

Post PR’s to comments.

  1. Height: Same – 5”9
BW:201->203 I ate and drank my milk must have been stress from finals.

    Squat: 122kg 3×5

    Deadlift: 140kg

    Snatch: 60kg

Clean: 65kg could have done more but was a pussy.

Press: 60kg 5,5,4 fucking weights fell off the bar on my last rep, I could have gotten it if I had been smart enough to use a collar.

Bench: Fixed some form issues that were holding me back. Should PR next week.

BB Curl: 40kg 4×10 as part of a superset with BB Rows and Chin ups :)

I also PR”d on dumbass movies, Julie & Julia and Four Christmases on back to back nights. Probable cause for lack of gain in bodyweight.

  2. I”m on 5/3/1 now so I am going for rep maxes. I benched 185×13 tonight, that is a PR for me if you take form into account. I probably did it before when I had terrible form and didn”t touch my chest.

  3. Deadlift 5×275—->5×285
    Squat 3x5x275—>3x5x285
Bench 4×200—–>3x5x200 (after failing for a
    Press 5×120—->5×125
    Squat clean 4x3x120—->4x3x125
8 pullups at roughly 188 lbs bw.

Weight=closer to being an adult male, but I haven”t weighed myself. I started SS at about 178 a few weeks ago, and I will likely cross the 190 threshhold in a week or two.

7 Gallons of whole milk completed this week.
Enormous portions of brisket, latkes, sour cream and apple sauce.

  4. BW 185 2lb PR

    Power Clean 160 x 5 x 3
    Bench 200 x 5 x 3
    Press 150 x 5 x 3
    Squat 265 x 5 x 3

This is my first full week back at work since the summer and I”m completely drained. Felt slow while squatting and I don”t know if that”s from work or if the linear progression is slowing. Hope it”s from work.

  5. Hey Guys — First post

    5”6, 190, 29 y/o

    Two PRs tonight:
    Squat: 290 x 5,5,5
    Deadlift: 295 x 6

Yes I am aware my deadlift is weak sauce and I am working on that.

  6. bs- 265 3×5
press- 127 3×5 but missed the last rep

Question- anyone ever have this happen: lift hard, come home, and feel like they are going to die? i was shivering, freezing, felt like i was going to pass out. took a burning hot shower- did not really help. I did not eat great today because i ate some crappy pizza that wanted to come back and visit. any ideas? blood pressure through the roof? food? alien growing inside me?

  7. No pr”s because I”m following linear progression. I am transitioning to straight SS next week.
    Today:
power clean 165x3x5 followed by max effort box jumps and agility drills.

Also, I work out around Fort Bragg, NC. My previous training partners moved on. If anybody is interested in starting a “70”s Big Club” in the area, let me know. I always get better results training with others.

  8. Ripped boxer briefs squatting on Tuesday.

1/2 gallon of egg nog today…didn”t have another half gallon so I ate the carton.

Going for squat & bench maxes tomorrow, as well as trying rack pulls for the first time…auto-PR!

  9. Height: 5”1″
    Weight: shy of 127lbs
    Gender: italian woman

From this week, not necessarily today:
    BS: 3x5x180lbs
    P: 1x5x80lbs
    Bench: 3x5x105lbs
DL: 1x5x190lbs (I had to reset from a bad stall earlier in the semester, but I stalled again at 195lbs, I think finals wore me out this week =( .
    PC: 5x3x120lbs

I”ve been doing SS since mid November, and have successfully used the squat rack at my college more times in two months than the EZ bar-toting, bicep curling, skinny gents have in a year. Granted, I cheated a little, I did CF for over a year until I realized that if I wanted to get really strong, I needed to lift heavy stuff more consistently.

  10. 5”11”” 163lbs (skinny!)
love the site! its hilarious. i”ll probably never make it to 200lbs or grow any kind of facial or bodily hair. currently just training the olympic lifts (85/105 at the moment)

i ate 3825 calories incl. 280g protein yesterday

although I don”t plan on trying to make it to 200lbs, i am trying to gain about approx 10lbs in the next few months or so cause I”d like to compete in the 77 weightclass

    my plan:
    3000-3500 calories/day
    250-320g of protein per day
with paleolithic foods as best I can. milk doesn”t make me feel good, but i might indulge in whole fat chocolate milk occasionally

  11. CFFB in Afghanistan, we did the total yesterday and I set some PR”s.

    Powerclean: 275 (10# PR)
    Squat: 485 (20 # PR)
    Bench: 295 (No PR, I”m a bitch)
Deadlift: 515 (15# PR, probably had some more in me)

  12. squat – five singles @ 190#! These felt better than last week”s 187. :-D

New DL 1RM this week: 275#. On the way to 300…

I should start keeping track of my body weight, because I know its going up but not sure by how much.

  13. New Guy here… 5” 7″ and 29 yrs old.

    Before Starting Strength(Oct ”09):
    BW: 145
    1 Rep Max
    Squat: 285 lbs PR
    Press: 140 lbs PR

    Workout last night(Dec 18th 2009):
    BW: 180
    Squat 3×5 280 lbs
    Press 5×3 140 lbs

That workout really pumped me up! Being able to rep my PR”s (well hopefully Monday for squat) lets me ignore the tire growing around my waist.

Question for you guys… if you do 3 sets of 5 reps do you write it 3×5 or 5×3?

I”ve seen both ways posted on the internet…. sometimes even varying if the exercise is weighted or not. Page 301 of SS:BBT(sample program) has me confused. I thought I was to do 5 sets of 3 reps for press and 3 sets of 5 reps for squat… anyone confirm for me?

    Thanks,

Looking forward to becoming a man!

  14. Just crossed the 200 lb mark (201) last Sunday. I”m up from 185 in late October when it was decided that it was huge time.

Also C&J”d 1/8th of a ton for a PR yesterday. Big money.

  15. Jenn, Maxine, and Nikki,
You girls are strong, thanks for posting here. I have my girl read it for motivation. She”s not on SS, but I got her barbell training twice/week a couple months ago and am really proud of her. I have her do a squat/bench day, and a deadlift/press day with more volume than normal since it”s only 2X/week. Anyways, thanks and keep up the strong lifts.

  16. Deadlift 325x5x1
    Press 115x5x3

Bodyweight – 215 lbs. Going to switch from scarfing down tons of food to just scarfing down tons of protein and milk. I am going to cut back on the number of carbohydrates.

I am also going to reset on squats this coming week. I recorded my squat form for the first time this week and it was pretty shaky, in fact I”m not even counting them as real squats (not low enough). I”m hoping that once my new shoes and belt get in that will greatly help my form.

  17. made my first 70s big shake today, the only exception to it was 2% milk and 1/2 fat ice cream. It was quite good. Ill be switching to a gallon of milk every 3 days soon due to a lack of money. Eating more to try and heal faster according to Rip.

  18. thx Ksmash :) Im 4”11, goal fat loss/compete in powerlifitng meet, on linear progression for about 3 months after 4mths of xit that did nothing. lift heavy weights!!!!
