Seattle Hangover

I just got home to Wichita Falls, and it is 12:30 AM local time. Airline delays are delightful. This means that I won’t be giving you a full recap of the trip today. I’m sorry I’m not sorry. There will be plenty of shenanigans coming tomorrow.

In the mean time, enjoy this video AC made of his “Starting Strength Crew” in Statesboro, GA. Good group.

A Usual Monday, Wednesday, Friday In Statesboro from A.C. on Vimeo.

Raise your hand if you have hit any PR’s lately. I think we need to have weekly updates of them — bodyweight gain or otherwise. Send them in, fool.

  1. Alright, I”ll admit it.

I am HATING seeing this A.C. Guy. It”s pissing me off. He”s only ~200lbs, and he”s not midget short with absurdly favorable leverages, but he”s so damn strong.
Well, guess I”ll just have to train harder.

Really, though. If you”re gonna keep putting up Vids of A.C, make him an author/contributor/whatever to this site. If he”s got enough time to make all these videos, maybe he can find some time to tell us why he”s so damn strong.

  2. I hit a PR, twice, in my Clean and Jerk on Sunday.

I believe stealing some of your cinnamon roll french toast at breakfast contributed to that.

    The PR #”s are not 70s Big…but I”m a chick…and don”t want to BE 70s Big.

  3. Penn – as far as I am aware AC”s secret is going all out with Starting Strength and eating alot. Not really mind blowing stuff there. It”s a testament to his commitment and intensity.

  4. after doing GOAMD for 6 weeks BW went from 195# to 220#, Squat from 405 to 425, deadlift 455 to 475, snatch from 185 to 225.

Sidenote: discussion going on in a forum I visit frequently, a guy is complaining that his legs are getting to big to fit into hit jeans and larger jeans would fall off of his waist. He want to loose some muscle mass so he can fit into his size 36 jeans. My suggestion was buy 38 size jeans with a belt and attempt to find your self respect while shopping.

  5. August ”09 (6-1, 35 y/o – all lifts 3 x 5rm))
    BW ~ 200#
    BP 150#
    SP 115#
    PC 135#
    BS 215#
    DL 305# (1 set)

    November ”09
    BW ~ 220#
    BP 175#
SP 125# (f last rep of 3rd set on 5.5 hours sleep)
    PC 165#
    BS 265#
DL 335# (alot more in the tank here)

Gone from 35″ to 38″ pants (only owned them for a week and will have to go up to 40″ soon).

BS and DL feel awesome. Each session feels like the last session ~ heavy, but doable.

  6. A.C. – You and your crew are obviously rock”n it out hard!

If there is anyone in the Austin/Round Rock/Georgetown, TX area that wants to get together to train, let me know.

    11/09/09:
    Squat: 255x3x5
    Bench: 200x3x5
    Deadlift: 285x3x5

    11/11/09:
    Squat: 260x3x5
    Press: 135x3x5
    P. Clean: 150x5x3

    Body-weight is around 205 lbs.

  7. Curious of everybody”s height and weight and waist size.

I bought 3 pairs of 38″ pants last week and in another week or two I”ll need to go up (along w/ another weight belt) – anybody else?

  8. 5”11″ 28y/o

    October 1st 2009
    BW– 165#

    November 8th 2009
    BW– 184#

*I should of started a slush fund for new clothes before I started my quest to 70”s Big.

  9. I”m 6” and 200lbs with a 32/33″ waist. Gained 12 pounds in October while doing the CFWF program and didn”t add any to my waist size. My thighs and hips on the other hand made everything much tighter.

  10. im 5” 10″ approximately 200 pnds up from 165 in early may. not too shabby. my lifts are gettin better and better thanks to SS. stalled a lil bit a month ago then i found this site started eating and i keep going up. when i started SS my waist was 32 and now its a 34. not too much of difference still pretty small. wide shoulders small waist. my thighs are huge in comparison now. ripped through a few pair of boxers at the gym.. quite hilarious when ur squatting and hear them rip. messes with the concentration hahaha.

    squat- 305pd 3×5
    press- 150pd 3×5
    PC- 190pd 5×3
    bench- 250pd 3×5 finally!
    Dl- 315pd 3×5

  11. I recently hit 3 x 5 with 315 on my squat.

I”m 6” 1″ and weigh 225. Should be able to squat more, but I”ll take my PR for now.

    To answer gannimal007 – I wear size 36 pants.

Love this site. Thanks for doing it.

  12. 6”2 21 yrs old
    (all 3×5)
    BW 140!——-190
    SQ 45———235
    DL 45———320 (long arms :)
    BP 45———140 (long arms :(
    SP 45———115
    PC 45———135

waist size has went from 30 to a 32, I plan on hitting 220 and then maintaining unless I change my mind

  13. Well, I began Starting Strength 3 weeks ago and these are the results so far…

    BW-From 185 lbs to 205 lbs

    Squat-230 lbs
    Press-125 lbs
    Bench-205
    Deadlift-255
    Pwr Clean- 130

I know these numbers aren”t exactly 70”s Big but just like my marriage, it”s a work in progress. Just gotta keep on keepin” on!

  14. 6”1″
    193 to 225
32″ to 36″ waist, plus I”m pretty sure my balls have doubled in size.

3 weeks ago I got owned by a 375 squat, I did a 10% drop, and today I will re-attempt 375, making it my new PR, and my bitch.

    Other PR”s this past week:
    Press-185
    Dead – 390 (400 today)
    Bench – 265 (270 today)
    PC – 210

I train with AC, as far as his strength is concerned – its not rocket science – its retard strength (and hard work).

  15. “3 weeks ago I got owned by a 375 squat, I did a 10% drop, and today I will re-attempt 375, making it my new PR, and my bitch. ”

best comment I”ve read to date.

  16. I understand that A.C”s results are from retard strength and hard work. I never thought he was doing anything secret. Looks like he”s just consistently lifting heavy and using something like the Texas Method or a program that emphasizes heavy sets around 5 or so reps.

But that doesn”t alleviate my extreme jealousy.

I just realized how A.C. compares to one of the up-and-coming 181ers in Mult-Puly Powerlifting, a very strong Mr. Derek Wilcox.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iluZlO6pYiY

This guy is damn strong, but what”s most impressive is his wizardry in a suit(s). He”s wearing multi-ply briefs, a single ply suit, and a multi ply suit in that attempt which I think got passed at this year”s pro-am. To give you some perspective, that”s an 835 squat. Mike Cartinian, the best multi ply lifter in the 181s, is squatting in the low 900s and pulling 620 conventional in a suit.

    http://www.youtube.com/user/CHAINMANS#p/u/7/Fm5TqosR4GM

Then here”s some of his raw training. 405X10 on squat and 500X4 on Deadlifts (His Suited Sumo is 635).

Meanwhile, A.C. is knocking out 475X5 on squats (a more impressive set in my mind) and more weight on raw deads. What I”m saying is this kid A.C. is on his way to lifting the same raw numbers as the strongest geared powerlifters in his weight class.

So I don”t think it”s out of the question to have maybe a guest posting by A.C. every once in a while. What makes this guy tick?

  17. Penn: I weigh 207 now btw and I am on the Texas method now.

I am also lucky because my dad is a freakin horse of a man. Genetically I am gifted too, not a freak, but got some genes.

A guest post would be cool (Im best friends with Justin). Unfortunately my writing skills are that of a 12 year old kid with an I.Q. of 41.

I love that dudes Master of Puppet shirt in the deadlift part.

I”ll talk to Lascek about writing a post.

Gotta give up some props to the guys I train with too. They are all getting so strong and they put up with me taking forever to lift.

  18. 5”10
    177
    Squat-356
    Dead-395(i will destroy 400 next!)
    Bench-235
    Press-175
    Clean-270(full clean idk my PC)
Hello. My name is Joe and im 90”s small…But not for long thanks to 70s big!

  19. A.C.

If your writing skills are that of a 2nd grader, than you can always “Co-write” something or do a voice over on your vids. Something.

    Keep Being Strong.

  20. To the people with pants too tight around thighs: Lucky Jeans makes one style that has really wide thighs. They”re the only kind I can find that fit my legs without a ridulously large waist. You can find them at Ross or Marshalls sometimes for 20-30$.

    6”2, 30 years old
    bodyweight: 230 – 275
    Bench: 175 – 232.5
    Squat: 185 – 340
    Deadlif: 315 – 440
    Press: 95 – 160
    Power Clean: 105 – 182.5

Even though right now I have a decent weight, right now I”m just 00”s fat. I look forward to getting 70”s big. Right now I”m focusing on Rip”s 200/300/400/500 standards.
This is the greatest webpage, I check it every morning.

  21. I”m in week 2 of SS. So far i keep going up as I”m looking for where I should be. Last night”s #s

    5”10″ 208
    Squat 265x3x6
    bench 205x2x6 210×6
    worked on clean form
    press 135x2x5 145×5

I”ve been working out for a few years, just started TRAINING last week.

  22. Yes unfortunately Im a pretty pathetic excuse of a man and those are my singles. But thanks to Mcgangbangs, iron, Whoprapeings, and hard work i will someday become worthy of callin myself 70s big with some real numbers to post on this site.

  23. That video totally pumped me up. I need to lift immediately.

    5″7, 31 years
BW 145 to 170 in a little over a month (GOMAD and lifting)

    Bench 1x?-3×1@245
Squat 3×5@225 to 3×5@260 (still on lateral progression)
Deadlift 1×440 (haven”t tried to PR lately)
Press 3×5@125 (still on lateral progression)
Power Clean 3×5@165 (still on lateral progression)

  24. This is also a usual Sun-Tue-Thru in Statesboro as that”s when my crew trains. We”re getting so big in Statesboro the gym tried to slow us down by removing the chalk. We will fight back.

  25. My favorite part in this and the other videos where AC”s deadlifting is the guys in the background. In every one there”s one or more guys that stop their curls etc., stop, stare and look dumbfounded and defeated:)

  26. 5 11 and 232# of hairy pissed off asian, genetics be damned.
Doing SS, trying to milk it through end of year.
    BS 3X5 @ 400 from 265
    DL 1X5 @ 430 from 315
    BP 3X5 @ 270 from 225
    SP 3X5 @ 185 from 140
    PC 5X3 @ 205 from 155

I hit my first reset after those #s due to week off, and am about to pass them up. Finally started micro loading too, and it”s helping alot. Will be at least 242 by year end, I love eating.

  27. Not only have they taken our chalk but they are now complaining that we spend “too much time” on the squat racks. Apparently we are infringing upon other dudes time to “shoulder shrug” 500 lbs.in the squat rack.

  28. sup 70sbiguns. While I”m not yet an adult male (19 y/o, 175 lbs) tomorrow I”ll be going for 300 x 5 x 3 on squat as part of my SS workout. Im very fucking proud of the fact that for the first time in my life I will be squatting 300 but I know its nothing compared to resident asshole here Mr AC (jk brah much love).

I”ll send in the video to Justin complete with short shorts, high socks, chuck taylors and my doug young XL 70sbig shirt. I yell a lot and I think it bothers the bodybuilders but if thats what it takes to get through my set i dont give two shits.

Even though I look reallly fuggin skinny in that shirt I dont plan on staying at 175 so thats why I got the XL…Strategizing

  29. Justin, I bet it would be easier if gyms actually had more than one or two squat racks. But that would NEVER make sense to them… Stupid gyms.

25 at 167 lbs 5”6″- fighting the daily fight to add to that.

    BS 5×5 @ 245
    DL 2×3 @ 285 (wish I didn”t suck)
    BP 5×5 @ 210 or 5×2 @ 230
    SP 5×5 @ 123
    PC 5×3 @ 155

Gosh, after writing that I am reminded that I suck. And that I need to go eat. Again. Then drink some more milk. Again. The question is do the grocery store employees know you by name yet? Esp the ones in the dairy isle.

  30. here are my lifts. i think they suck but i”m still making progress so that”s what counts.
these are my work sets 5×3
    squat- 175
    press- 75
bench 100 (just re-set to 90 b/c i”m no longer doing my work sets w/ an arched back)
    deads- 200

i”m re-setting to 165 on my squat. i tried for 180 today and only got 4 reps out-booooo. during my squat session i had 3 ”trainers” approach me, i was the Y. 2 of them congratulated me on lifting so heavy. that was cool. but the other told me I”m wasting time going below 90o and i should look up b/c (get this) looking down could stop my breathing. I kindly asked him to fuck off

  31. Good work Elizabeth! Keep working… keep looking down, and keep showing them up in the gym. Why are there not more females like you? Are you all hiding somewhere?

  32. doing Texas method right now, didnt have the opportunity to start “fresh” as a novice on Starting Strength.

    5”9, 185lbs, 17% bf.

    squat ~350
    dead ~380
    bench ~225
    powerclean – 200
    press ~ 140

work sets lower obviously. We”ll see where this goes.

  33. I am a 25 and 5” 5″

I am doing GOMAD and eating as much as I possibly can.

Numbers when I started GOMAD (I weighed 135):
    Squat 3×5: 215
    DL 1×5: 265
    Bench 3×5: 170
    Press 3×5: 105
    PC 1×5: 155

    Now I weigh 150
    Squat 3×5: 255
    DL 1×5: 315
    Bench 3×5: 205
Press 3×5: 125 (I need some micro plates)

My power clean sucks, but my clean has improved a ton. I have done reps @ 185 recently and last week PR”d with 205.

I want my squat to be a 3×5 in the 300”s.

    Mini AC here I come.

  34. Bodyweight down to 255!

    26 Sessions into SS.
    Squat 245 3X5
    Squat 295 Double
I have a hard time with running out of breath on Squats and can prob do 315-325 single but am working my SS protocol!

    Bench
    225 3X5
    255 Single

    Dead
    365 1X5
405 Single I can do more I lovvve Deadlifting! Just being a little careful!

    OHP 145 3X5
    Never done a single

    PC 170 5X3
    Never done a single

I don”t do many maxs as I don”t want to effect my SS training! Except for my bench all my heavy singles are after a PR working set!

  35. johnnyb- right on man.. my gym only has two racks and it can def be annoying trying to get one or when people wanting to use one. also we dont have mats or a very good floor for dropping weights so i gets really annoying on powerclean day

  36. As a lifelong runner and swimmer, it has always been hard to put on weight and get stronger. The SS program has been awesome. No major weight gain yet, but the numbers are going up. It has been hard to progress while training for a Marathon, but the gains are still there. I may not get 70s big with my cardio routine, but this site has been a great wealth of info for a skinny guy trying to get stronger.

    9/22/09 5”10″ 150#
    all 3×5
    Bench 40# DB
    Squat 135#
    Dead Lift 185#
    Press 55#
    Row 45# DB

    11/3/09 5”10″ 155#
    all 3×5
    Bench 60# DB
    Squat 185#
    Dead Lift 235#
    Press 75#
    Row 65# DB

  37. Snyder, you need to eat a lot more than you already are. At 5’10″ you are obligated to weigh 200 pounds.

And I am of the opinion you are capable of doing power cleans. Rowing won’t be useful.

  38. Justin, I agree with you on both points. I just started power cleans a week ago, but I am keeping the weight low until I am comfortable with the movement. I have been working 3×5 at 90# in to my routine and will start upping the weight next week. As for food, I have the (in this case) bad habit of stopping when I am full. I need to think of pushing my stomach as if it were part of my training.

  39. Age: 18
    Height: 5”6
    BW: 175

I”m doing 5/3/1 to try and get 70”s big. All I care about is strength. Started actual lifting this past January. All of these numbers are PR”s to when I started to program 5 months ago

Beginning lifts for 5/3/1 and BW was about 155.

    Press: 85×7
    Deadlift: 235×10
    Bench: 130×11
    Squat: 200×12

    Recent lifts:
    Press: 105×7
    Deadlift: 295×5
    Bench: 180×6
    Squat: 260×3

I love this site and all the great training vids posted. Thank you Justin and Gant for making this website.
