Jennifer Thompson

While the fellas were weighing in on Friday, Jennifer Thompson was busy with a World Record performance in the NAPF Raw Challenge. This is a video of her final deadlift, but she had alreadysquatted 142.5/313.5 and benched 136.5/300.3. That’s right, a woman weighing right under 132 lbs benched 300 lbs. Sounds like some of you need to step up your bench game, huh? This video is of her final deadlift at 195kg/429lbs. Amazing.

  1. What a feat of strength! That’s really amazing. Question: Are as many muscles used in the sumo deadlift compared to the convetional style? Would there be any reason for a person to train both ways? It seems like you don’t have to lift the bar quite as far when you use the sumo method since the arms hang straighter and legs don’t go straight.

  2. Jeebus!

She Benches almost what she Squats, and her deadlift is ferocious.

My Bench and Squat are not bad, but my deadlift comparitively is not as good.

I find it interesting how a lifter is better at one lift more than another. I wonder why that is?

    Super impressive.

  3. @maslow – if you notice that Brooks Conway who pulls SUMO trains a lot of the time in a conventional stance. The regular deadlift involves a lot more entire back while the sumo is very dependent on the hips/glutes area.

I’m pretty sure Brooks only recently started messing around more with conventional (as in, after his last big meet), but I’m not totally sure. I think I recall him telling me he hadn’t trained it a whole lot, but he’s pretty strong in that one “raw dog” style, as he calls it.

  4. completely unrelated, but I recall justin tweeting or some shit about how jacked david garcia is and let me tell you something pendejo, I was in San Fran one time and trained (albeit terrified) in the sports pallace where Jim Schmitz is based and I saw him training and it was awesome. The dude is legitly jacked out of his mind and his freaking legs are so big it is unbelieveable. Anyways, he was crushing sets of 3 or so on the front squat at 170 and it looked as though the bar was completely empty, made me feel like crap but its good to see him crushing dat weight. yeah!
