Glad thats over

Feeling waaay better today than I have been the past few days. It’s like I had one really fucking rough day of being sick and I am just recovering from that. Debating on going to lift today or tomorrow. Might end up going late tonight. Depends on a few things.

Willey Says: 235 Press at 180? Excuse me while I quit life. I thought I was getting strong with a bodyweight press, but goddamn you’re a monster.

Justin has pointed out that for some reason I have really good mechanics when I press. A lot better than a good bit of people. I’ve had good coaching and picked up on it really quickly. With that said and my current best press being 265 it’s still not a good press. You guys forget that there are dudes who can rep out 315-405 that don’t weigh much more than me. I have a slightly above average press with good mechanics. Nothing to beat yourself up about.

Today will most likely be a light day. I’ll see how I feel once I get to the gymnasium.

Felt Fine

Squat: 435×5/420×5/405×5

Dips: 90lbsx5x3

Squat: 87x5x3
Press: 55x3x3
Pendlay Rows: 65x5x3

  1. Glad you’re feeling better, homie.

Thanks man. Might have took a hit on the body when the seasons changed here.

  2. I would still say your press is far above average haha. The people you’re talking about are people like Klokov, who of course are insanely strong for their weight. I’ve never seen anyone at my Uni gym press over 135 strict, so me having a 185 BW press impresses the hell out of everyone else here haha. I’ve only been doing standing press since August though, so I’m sure I can well surpass bodyweight soon.

Also curious, do you know what mechanics Justin means? Like short arms, or forearm to upper arm proportion or just how you set up?

I’m very normally proportioned and I have pretty excellent technique.

Wait wait wait. You weigh 180 now? I’m really confused.

    • I think he was referencing he weighed 180 back when he used to do cross fit. See previous post and comments thread.

It was a comment in reference to when I was 180, correct.

  4. glad you’re feeling better.

So Dana (my fiance) has been getting a little burnt out lately and I’m not sure how to help her. She’s been doing a SS LP for the last 6ish months. About two-ish months ago she switched from 5×5 on the lifts to 3×5. She’s done several deloads but is struggling moving up with bench, press and barbell row. I’m not sure what advice to give her. Keep working at it and do deloads when necessary? Go to a texas method setup?

She’s done great over the past months so I just don’t want her to get discouraged. Not sure what to tell her. Any advice very much welcome.

What other upper body exercises are you having her do?

    • When I did SS, the only thing that really kept me going was eating a lot. I’m not saying that you need to feed her, but maybe she’s under recovered?

You could also try what Johnny Pain advised back in the day, deload for 10% and do 3×5 with the last set a rep-out (not balls to the wall I guess). And work your way back up again.

    • She’s doing squat, bench, deadlift, press and barbell row. Occasionally she’ll throw in some curls or tricep extensions. everything is 3×5. Now that I’m typing this I’m wondering if she needs to lose the curls/triceps. She was doing them to give her arms some extra work.

Good point kincain about the diet. We’re getting married in July and she watches what she eats and eats pretty clean/lean.

Currently her lifts are (all in lbs and 3×5): Bench 95. Barbell row 60. Deadlift 85. Squat 80. Press 70. She’s 5’7″ at 140ish.

She’s had a few resets in squat due to a leg injury but now she’s progressing nicely there and with deadlift.

The arm stuff is fine, leave it in. She needs to be attempting pull-ups, if she can’t do them. Justin had an article on a bunch of variations for women, so check that out. You could maybe add some dips during the triceps “stuff” to actually add a good accessory exercise, for helping her upper body develop.

      • 10-4. I remember seeing that article a while back, I’ll find it and go through it with her.

As far as adding the pull ups and dips what day should she put those on respectfully, bench day do the pull ups or dips?

        • *respectively… ugh it’s too early for words over 6 letters.

Do the dips on the Bench day and the pull-ups on the last day of her training week.

          • 10-4 Thanks again. I’ll report back in a few weeks.

            Dana says thanks too!

  5. Man 235 at 180 is diesel.

    I try.

  6. Ac….just added you on Facebook if you don’t care. Too late anyways. Are you only weighing 180 right now? There’s no way.

    I do not weigh 180

  7. 180!!!!!!

lol no! It was a reference to a comment about me WHEN I was 180. Im still 220.

Do you have any advice for a singlet? I have just heard that some wrestling singlets run a little tight in the thighs.

They run tight everywhere dude. They are SINGLETS.

    • mooseknuckles

Well in that case, enjoy the show ladies.

IF you got a small dick the world will know, but if you got a big dick the world will know.

      • That comment made me laugh before dragging my sorry ass to work on a Saturday morning. So give yourself a pat on the back.

      • mooseknuckles

Well maybe it will help make up for my embarassing bench.

Ha it would make up for more than that. You might just win the meet.

      • This is why I do strongman. My micropenis is my business.

        • Also, has anyone gotten a fear boner in their singlet when squatting? I could see that happening to me. Nobody would notice…
