PR Friday July 26

PR Friday comes again ladies and gents, hope you all had a good week. Here at 70’s Big, we spotlighted the women of USAW at the OTC on Monday. The Fellas checked in from Raw nationals with some hotel gym training sesh’s and Brent talked to us about finding your 10.  Justin started his series on efficient training with The Squat, and also started a Q&A for his book, Paleo for Lifters to answer any questions you might have.

Over on the facebook page, a bunch of people have shared photos with us lately. Here’s a few:

  1. No PRs again, still nursing my knee. It’s A LOT better than it was thanks to compression wrapping it. Hoping to get back at it 100% next week.

    • Entered my first PL meet in 20 years – lifting in the USAPL NJ State meet Aug 10-11. Will be lifting raw masters 1a as a 220. looking forward to getting a total. Anyone else going to be there?

Only PR this week was after accessory work, couldn’t reach to straighten the back of my collar for work.

  2. First PR in a while due to 6 months off lifting last year and a recent injury or two.

    Bench: 225×5 (PR)
DL: 455×3 (5 lbs from 3rm PR but wasn’t too bad used speed DLs early in week)

Both at 20 lbs lighter than when I hit anything close to these before if that counts for anything.

Also have hit all sorts of highland games PRs this season in every event by some big numbers.

  3. Time in the gym has been less then good lately do to some life stuff. Like hardly any consistency this summer. However this week I was able to get in a couple days this week. Not anything near old PRs, but gotta restart somewhere I guess.

    Squat 275x3x5
    Press 120x3x5
    Deadlift 315×5
    Bench 205x3x5
    Chins – BWx3x5

Now heading out of town for the week. Going to get up in the mountains and clear my mind and get refreshed.

  4. 6x2x185 for cleans.

I have never trained cleans, and have not even played with them in over 8 months. I’ve been out of the country in Guatemala for the last two weeks, chaperoning a high school trip, and went in to play around in the gym before getting back on the training horse on Monday. Needless to say, Cloud’s coaching has paid off in spades.

  5. First 70sbig post… been reading it for about 6 months now. Training for longer but ‘training’ isn’t really the word I’d use for what I was doing

I finally am making some headway doing 10 rep squats – got 10 reps with 195. Nothing special but it’s progress!

  6. Squat PR of 1 x 134 kg. Went for 137 to break the 300 lb mark for the first time but missed. I think I also hit 6 x 110 kg for a PR or something random like that.

  7. HB Squat 335×10
    Bench 250×8
    Deadlift 475×3
Also Justin, I love the site. However, I have recently been having a hard time with it, because if i just type it into the search bar, it doesn’t update. It’s just been sorta wonky lately. I hope it gets fixed, because this is a great place both for info and the community

    • I think they said something about there being a problem with the cache. Just hit refresh once you get to the site and it updates everything to current.

  8. Decent week
    Press 187 3×5
    Squat 352 3×5
    DL 417×5 and 482×1
    Best DL since I was 27…I’m 38 now so I can’t complain.

Life PR…I’ve been at my new job for 7 months. Thursday I closed a deal they’ve been unable to get worked our for 9 years after spending less than 3 hours working on it with the client..!!

  9. Was just messing around during my deload week, only PR was a 225 power clean.

Will be traveling without access to a gym for the next 3 weeks, reviewed your old articles about training while traveling and with limited equipment. I love this site.

  10. Novice lifter, long time lurker, first time poster.

Still on the linear program at the moment, but definitely happy with my progress… mobility constantly on the improve… being a desk jockey makes it hard to keep it up though.

    Squat 5×5 @ 115kg (253lbs)
    Deadlift 1×5 @ 115kg
    Bench 2×5 (3 sets at 85kg, I wanted 87.5kg but they threw away the increment plates) @ 90kg (198lbs)
    OHP 5×5 @ 42.5kg (93.5lbs)

Any tips on stiff necks to release that would be great. (I am hitting that supple neck MWOD constantly).

  11. No PR’s but intensity day is building back up…

    BS 335×5
    MP 135×5
    DL 380×5

    BW: Hovering between 172-174

Today was actually my volume day and I hit some Close Grip after my bench for 3×10. I noticed significant favoring of my right side during the later reps of my sets. I would also say that my right arm is bigger than my left (including shoulder, biceps, and triceps). Does anyone have any recommendations for remedying this issue? Almost every exercise I perform, is two handed (pullup, dip, barbell presses, etc.)

  12. Weak basted checking in for my first Friday post.
    Back squat PR: 315 X 1
    My other lifts:
    Bench: 200 X 5
    Deads: 305 X 5
    MP: 125 X 5

Just hit 200 lbs & trying to keep the steady increase going. Been doing Madcows for about 2 months and started at around 185. Yes I wish my numbers weren’t so weak for being 200 lbs. I wasted a lot of time not working on strength early on.

Side note: going to Austin tomorrow from Massachusetts. Any advice?
