  1. My Press is stalling on Starting Strength at 150×5. My Bench is starting to stall as well, so I’ll be transitioning to a TM setup soon (my squat has already transitioned). It seems less than ideal for me though to alternate weeks between the Press and Bench. What are your thoughts on this? I’ve been thinking about just doing a Press focus, and letting bench take a back seat.

    They are going to simultaneously strengthen one another. Also who doesn’t want pecs? but on a serious note: If you feel like there are no mechanical issues and that you are doing mostly everything you can do right (outside of the gym) then yeah switch to TM

  3. Do you do anything particular in regards to warmups or getting ready to press? Some days I come in and just crush my press for a 3×5, and others I can barely eek out 2 reps at the same weight. I feel the same, my form looks the same based on recordings, and I don’t feel any different other than the strength just not being there when I get to the actual set.

    I do the same warm-up every time. There is nothing that I do that everyone else doesn’t do. I just have some good music playing

    • I find the press to be extremely fickle in terms of how one’s been eating, sleeping, recovering. It doesn’t take much to make a previously easy weight suddenly very heavy.

  4. Your “skeet” breath at the top of your press is quite impressive. Are you also getting both an exhale and inhale that fast? geez man… you sound like a sprinkler bout to turn on. that’s awesome.

    lol “skeet” isn’t a cool word to precede breath. Yeah thats when you should be breathing during the Press man.
